Aspen Pad Media – Pads made of shaved aspen trees placed in a plastic mesh. It is suggested that you replace aspen pads once to twice a season. Aspen pads offers the highest cooling level for traditional coolers. Aspen debris do tend to fall into the water pan and clog up the system making mid season cleaning need more frequently. Aspen pads are the worst choice for clients with allergies.

CELdek Pad Media- CELdek evaporative media is made from a specially engineered cellulose paper that is chemically treated to resist deterioration. Cross fluted, unequal angle pad design promotes the highly turbulent mixing of air and water for optimum cooling and humidification. It is suggested that CELdek pads be replaced once every five to seven years. Pads may need to be sprayed out every once in awhile depending on the water in your area and dust and debris in the air. CELdek pad media offers the coolest discharge temperatures. CELdek pads are the best choice for clients with allergies.

Clean Machine– flushes out stagnate old water on an interval of six hours of operation allowing the cooler to fill with fresh water. The clean machine will prolong the life of your pads and operating system. It keeps the system cleaner helping to prevent the need for mid season cleaning. Comparable to a bleed kit, but wastes less water and keeps the system cleaner.

Paper Pad Media- Paper pad media is made of heavy paper and used in traditional evaporative coolers. Offers the worst discharge temperatures of all the pad medias available. Paper pad media lasts the longest out of the traditional cooler media. It is suggested that paper pads be replaced every two years.
Single Inlet Cooler
Single Inlet Cooler- Newer style cooler that is low profile and pulls air in from one side through an 8”, 12” or 8” high density CELdek pad. Cooler is broken into two sections a wet section that contains all water related components and a dry section that contains the fan assembly, motor and plugs for the pump and motor. This design allows for better discharge temperatures and the coolers last up to ten years longer than the traditional design. Cooler is much more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Highest end cooler come with a Pro Stat programmable thermostat that allows the cooler to choose between high and low setting offering the highest efficiency, also can program time delay to turn the cooler on/off and has a night and day setting for two different periods of comfort.
Features that can be added to increase comfort and use ability:

Common Brand Names
Trophy CoolerTrophy: Basic single inlet suggested by SwampTech for it’s superior craftsmanship and finish
Aerocool ProProseries: Highest end cooler on market with the best discharge temperature around. This is the best of the best.
UltracoolUltracool
Mastercool no longer available (this company closed in 2008)

Synthetic Pad Media- Synthetic pad media is made up of high efficiency foamed polyester. Offers the second best discharge temperature for a traditional evaporative cooler. It is recommended that you replace Synthetic pads once a year or rinse out in soapy water after the first year of usage and replace it the second year of usage. Synthetic pad media is the best choice for clients with allergies in traditional systems. SwampTech recommends synthetic pads for the traditional evaporative cooling system, because they don’t clog up the system like aspen pads and they cool far better than paper pads. There is a slight discharge temperature between aspen and synthetic pads, but most people don’t even notice the difference. We suggest trying the synthetic pads first and if you notice a difference switch back to aspen.
